JTL has become one of the leading providers of AM2 testing in England and Wales with AM2 centres at its Birmingham and Oxford training centres, but it was a surprise for apprentice Luke Watson from the Midlands to find he was the 1000th AM2 test graduate in the past twelve months through JTL’s centres.
Even more of a surprise to receive a full Martindale voltage indicator proving unit from NET technical development manager Jon Dicken to recognise the milestone.
Jon Dicken oversees the charity NETs AM2 centres nationwide having joined NET in 2016. On hand at the presentation alongside Luke and Jon Dicken were JTL’s head of product development Richard Dady and the new AM2 Training centre manager for JTL in Birmingham, Paul Wilson.
As the final unit of the electrical installation qualification, the AM2 has provided the means of independently assessing the occupational competence of electrical installation apprentices for more than 30 years.
The purpose of the AM2 is to ensure all qualifying installation electricians achieve the industry standard that has been defined by employers. Achieving AM2 demonstrates the practical skills and associated knowledge that candidates have gained during their training process.
“We’re delighted that our AM2 centres are as busy as they are and that employers are happy to send their apprentices, whether learning through JTL apprenticeships or not, to our facilities to achieve that final piece of the qualification jigsaw,” says Richard Dady.
“I’ve been involved with the Birmingham Training Centre since the day we acquired the site and its very rewarding to see all the different aspects of what we do there coming together so well and being so warmly welcomed by employers across the Midlands.”
“I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I was the 1000th apprentice this year to go through the AM2 with JTL and amazed to hear that I was getting the Martindale unit to mark the milestone,” said Luke Watson. “I’ve been delighted with the support I have had from JTL and my Training Officer Peter Bunting throughout my apprenticeship, and getting this award to recognise the success of the AM2 centres at JTL training centres is the icing on the cake for me!”
