Circuit Electrical Testing, a small husband and wife-run electrical testing business based in Halifax, has been named as the UK’s best small business-to-business company at the inaugural Small Awards in association with Facebook.
The ‘Supply Chain’ award, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Vans, recognises small businesses that are working within the business supply chain; those that work with other businesses large and small, with particular credit to those businesses that include other small businesses in their supply chain.
Husband and wife owners Vicky and Brian Nolan collected the company’s award at a glittering Black Tie Ceremony in London hosted by television personality, Sue Perkins. The Small Awards have been established specifically to recognise the achievements of small and micro-businesses.
In their citation, the judges said that Circuit Electrical Testing “impressed with its ‘David vs Goliath’ attitude towards tendering for large contracts and a willingness to box above its weight. The judges were also impressed by the investment of time and resources helping local young people into the workplace.”
Speaking after collecting the award, Vicky said: “We’re shocked, amazed and really proud. We have a fantastic team back in Yorkshire and we’re really proud of them. It’s been an amazing night.”
Circuit Electrical Testing, which numbers Greater Manchester Police, South West Yorkshire NHS Trust, 90% of Welsh councils through the Welsh Consortium, has grown from employing three people in 2007 to 35 today.
The company, which has also diversified into thermal imaging and Hazardous Area Testing, also took the leap from renting an office to buying a whole building and turning it into serviced offices, helping reinvigorate the local business scene in the process.
The Small Awards in association with Facebook recognises the achievements of small businesses in ten categories across multiple sectors and areas of activity, including high street businesses, family businesses, start-ups and business-to-business companies, as well as those that export, and even companies that contribute most to their community.
